Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Fisheries, Aquatic Ecology, Wildlife Biology, Earth Sciences, or related field.
  • For NRS II: Two years of relevant experience; for NRS III: Six years; for NRS IV: Ten years of relevant experience.
  • Valid Class 'C' Texas driver's license within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to obtain a Texas Department of Agriculture Non-Commercial/Political Herbicide Applicator License within six months.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Coursework in ArcGIS and statistical analysis, preferably biometrics.
  • Experience in biological sampling and public outreach.
  • Experience using ArcGIS for project mapping and data analysis.
  • Experience in writing research proposals and scientific reports.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct riparian invasive species surveys, monitoring, and management in riparian habitats associated with creeks and rivers.
  • Complete data entry, analysis, and reporting related to invasive species management.
  • Supervise volunteers and/or seasonal staff engaged in invasive species management and outreach.
  • Use ArcGIS and statistical analyses to create and maintain data-collection applications and develop project plans and reports.
  • Manage collaborative partnerships, grants, and contracts with agencies and nonprofit organizations.
  • Oversee contractor activities for aquatic herbicide application treatment of invasive plants.
  • Conduct landowner workshops and public outreach activities to develop partnerships for invasive species management.
  • Develop educational materials and programs related to invasive species prevention and management.
  • Assist with the creation of social media content and outreach materials.
  • Conduct applied research on the distribution and impacts of invasive species.
