About the position

The Natural Resources Specialist IV (Regional Natural Resources Coordinator) is responsible for advanced natural resources work, focusing on the planning and coordination of natural resource protection, restoration, management, monitoring, and research activities within the assigned region. This role involves collaboration with various teams and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations while providing training and technical assistance to staff.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate natural resource protection, restoration, management, and monitoring activities.
  • Direct projects related to natural resource management on State Parks.
  • Develop long-term natural resource planning and stewardship documents.
  • Conduct reviews for State Park infrastructure and operational developments.
  • Ensure compliance with Texas Parks and Wildlife Code and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate in natural resource assessments and prepare recommendations.
  • Participate in the State Parks Wildland Fire and Habitat Management Program.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to regional and park staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Science, Conservation Science, Biological Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science or closely related field.
  • Five years of field experience in natural resources management or conservation science.
  • Experience with GIS/GPS tools and applications.
  • Possession of a Texas class 'C' driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to obtain a Non-Commercial Political Pesticide/Herbicide Applicators license within one year of employment.
  • Ability to obtain National Wildfire Coordinator's Group (NWCG) Fire Fighter Type II certification within one year of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Conservation Science, Wildlife Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Biological Science, Environmental Science or closely related field.
  • Experience developing resource management objectives and prescribing land management tools.
  • Experience working with GIS field mapping systems and creating cartographic outputs.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary cultural resource stewardship.
  • Experience in developing public and private partnerships.
