About the position

The Park/Historic Site Superintendent III (Park Superintendent) is responsible for the management and operation of Abilene State Park, ensuring the preservation and protection of its natural and cultural resources. This senior-level position involves overseeing park administration, financial management, human resources, customer service, and community outreach, while also responding to emergencies and on-call situations. The role requires a combination of leadership, initiative, and independent judgment to effectively manage park operations and promote visitor engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the preservation and protection of natural and cultural resources at Abilene State Park.
  • Oversee financial management, including budget planning, preparation, and monitoring.
  • Handle revenue management and ensure accountability of revenue collection.
  • Supervise human resources management, including recruitment and retention of staff.
  • Implement security and safety programs within the park.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair of facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  • Provide excellent customer service and manage public relations efforts.
  • Develop marketing and promotional activities to attract visitors to the park.
  • Organize special events and community outreach programs.
  • Respond to emergency and on-call situations as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Four years of experience in natural/cultural resource management, interpretation or education, general maintenance, public safety, or promotions/public relations/marketing.
  • Two years of supervisory or team leader experience.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a class 'C' Texas driver's license within 30 days of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Park Administration, Recreation and Parks, Wildlife/Fisheries Science, Natural and/or Cultural Resource Management, Forestry, Biology, Anthropology, Archeology, or History.
  • Experience in revenue or budget management.
  • Experience as a supervisor or team leader in park operations and management.
