About the position

The Project Management Specialist I (Project Manager and Traffic Coordinator) position at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is a full-time role based in Austin, Texas. This position is responsible for performing journey-level project management work, focusing on scheduling and estimating for print and graphic design projects. Under the direction of the Associate Creative Director, the specialist will document and coordinate the planning and initiation of various projects, ensuring that all internal customers receive maximum customer service. The role involves monitoring and tracking complex project schedules, communicating effectively with project requesters, and maintaining a computerized job tracking system to facilitate efficient coordination of agency design, printing, and copying jobs. The Project Management Specialist will serve as the first point of contact for project initiation within the Creative and Interactive Services (CIS) team. This includes supporting CIS staff in implementing the Agency Publications Policy and coordinating, planning, and evaluating projects using standard project management methodologies. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work under moderate supervision while exercising independent judgment. Additional duties may be assigned as needed, and compliance with all agency rules and regulations is mandatory. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, effective communication abilities, and a customer service orientation. The role is designed for individuals who can manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines. The position also allows for telework two days per week, subject to supervisor approval, and may require occasional overtime and travel.

Responsibilities

  • Document and coordinate the planning and initiation of print and graphic design projects.
  • Monitor and track complex project schedules and communicate with project requesters.
  • Serve as the first contact for project initiation for Creative and Interactive Services (CIS).
  • Maintain computerized job tracking system for efficient coordination of agency design, printing, and copying jobs.
  • Communicate CIS processes and procedures to internal clients.
  • Support CIS staff in the communication and implementation of the Agency Publications Policy.
  • Coordinate, plan, and evaluate projects using standard project management methodologies.
  • Perform related special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Sixty semester credit hours from an accredited college or university, or two additional years of experience can substitute for this education requirement.
  • Four years of experience in customer service, administrative support, project management, printing, or graphic design.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid class 'C' Texas driver's license within 30 days of employment.
  • Knowledge of workflow processes relating to in-house graphic design, pre-press, and outsourced print.
  • Familiarity with creative-centric environments and standard project management theories and practices.
  • Skill in advanced project management monitoring and in the operations of computers and applicable project management software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Graphic Design, Journalism, English, or a business-related field.
  • Experience performing formal project management in a creative services or publications environment.
  • Current Project Management Certification.
