About the position

The Track & Field Coach - Career Services position at the University of Valley Forge involves performing the duties of head coaching for the track and field program while also managing career services for students. The coach will be responsible for recruiting student-athletes, monitoring their academic progress, coaching techniques, and developing game strategies. Additionally, the role includes managing an online job board, assisting students with employment opportunities, and organizing career service events.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit quality prospective student-athletes that fit within the Christian and Academic requirements set forth by The University of Valley Forge.
  • Monitor academic progress and status of team members, implementing action plans through appropriate staff when needed.
  • Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student-athletes.
  • Coach team members individually and in groups, and demonstrate game techniques.
  • Develop and implement game strategy and position assignments.
  • Manage all operational, fiscal, and administrative activities for the specific sports program.
  • Promote the athletic program and specific sport through community events, public speaking, fundraising, and marketing.
  • Ensure adherence to all Association, Conference, and University rules by athletes and supporting staff.
  • Work with scheduling coordinators to schedule non-conference opponents each year within the NCAA guidelines.
  • Transportation to and from games with driving responsibilities.
  • Manage online job board related to off campus jobs and professional opportunities.
  • Actively assist students in finding off campus employment & provide information about on-campus employment.
  • Serve as the departmental liaison for Faculty and Staff to ensure all jobs, internships and other professional opportunities are up to date and accurate on our online job platform.
  • Meet or connect regularly with employers to promote UVF students and obtain information concerning part-time employment.
  • Meet with students preparing to review resumes and discuss professional opportunities.
  • Provide guidance and counseling in career services (self-assessment tools, career choice, etc.).
  • Manage all on-campus Career Service events such as Job fair, Career Fair, Job Seminars, Mock Interview and employer visits to campus.
  • Create and maintain appropriate assessments on career opportunities and manage a career and education planning tool.
  • Manage the Career Services email & social media pages with the support of the Marketing Department and student workers.
  • Assist in management of student workers by verifying time cards bi-weekly and assigning responsibilities for daily tasks.
  • Provide Career Services overview session for First Year Experience classes.
  • Assist in management of the 'Student Link' Academic support program.
  • Meet with students who need academic support weekly.
  • Work with our disability's office for services and support for our students.
  • Help to manage and update Beacon (our student alert and notifications system).
  • Oversee & manage study hall space in Student Success department.

Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with college age students.
  • Experience with mentoring/counseling.
  • Experience working with employers and/or Employment Agencies.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) are essential to work with students, faculty, staff and employers.
  • Able to collaborate with students, faculty and employers.
  • Familiarity with career trends, resources and understanding of learning outcomes and their relationship to professional development.
  • Able to review and edit resumes.
  • Computer Skills (Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Word and Social Media Sites).
