About the position

The Tracked Systems Management Abrams Production Lead is responsible for leading engineering support for key ground combat vehicle platforms at General Dynamics. This role involves strategic planning, project management, and ensuring the successful execution of engineering projects to meet production goals and customer needs. The position requires collaboration with various functional teams and the ability to manage complex technical projects within the defense industry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of key strategies for the assigned program's success.
  • Manage the Engineering to Support Production (ESIP) team to ensure on-time delivery of vehicles by resolving problem reports.
  • Develop, validate, and approve high-quality corrective actions through the GDLS change and validation process.
  • Plan and manage individual projects that pose significant risks to the production program.
  • Apply project management concepts to plan and execute engineering projects, including creating project plans and schedules.
  • Provide technical leadership to other functional organizations to ensure successful problem resolution.
  • Act as the GDLS Engineering interface for the customer and bridge to the larger GDLS engineering team.
  • Forecast engineering manpower for assigned projects/programs.
  • Provide project status updates and corrective action activities at various meetings.
  • Develop and present executive-level summaries to GDLS leadership.
  • Utilize established metrics for monitoring project performance.
  • Manage and lead the team through proposal and contracting activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering preferred).
  • Minimum of 15 years' experience in the defense industry (less experience may be considered with advanced degrees).
  • Demonstrated project engineering and/or program experience overseeing complex technical projects.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is a plus.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong organizational capabilities to lead in a team-based environment.
  • Analytical skills for directing and consulting on technical issues.
  • Knowledge of business finances, Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS), scheduling tools, and critical path analysis.
  • Experience with US government programs (DoD).
  • Knowledge of GDLS products, processes, and capabilities.
  • Team/Matrix management experience preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project).

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA or advanced business degree.
  • Experience in developing and presenting presentations using various media.
