About the position

The Trade Practice Investigator role at CME Group is focused on ensuring compliance with exchange rules and safeguarding market integrity. Investigators utilize surveillance tools to monitor for abusive trading practices and conduct thorough investigations into potential violations. This position offers extensive training and opportunities for professional development within a collaborative regulatory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform timely program reviews to detect potential trade practice rule violations, such as spoofing and other disruptive trading activities.
  • Evaluate complaints from market participants and conduct independent research for evidence of potential rule violations.
  • Conduct comprehensive investigations into identified potential trade practice rule violations.
  • Take recorded statements from subjects and witnesses during investigations.
  • Communicate analysis results and recommend appropriate actions to Investigations management.
  • Produce concise and well-grounded reports for management and enforcement counsel.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from a four-year, accredited institution; advanced or professional degrees are a plus.
  • One to three years of direct work experience at an exchange, regulatory organization, or Futures Commission Merchant preferred.
  • Experience working with large data sets.
  • Strong to exceptional analytical, quantitative, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Intermediate to Advanced MS Word and MS Excel; knowledge of Python, R, and Data Visualization is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in regulatory compliance or market surveillance.
  • Familiarity with statistical modeling techniques.
