About the position

The Trade Research Analyst at Toyota plays a crucial role in the Customs and Trade Compliance Department, focusing on enhancing the quality of Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) classifications. This position requires a proactive approach to understanding customer needs and building processes that ensure timely classifications, facilitating smooth and compliant business operations. The analyst will support key stakeholders, including North American Manufacturing Companies and Production Engineering, by providing technical expertise and problem-solving capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Support ECCN / HTS daily classifications.
• Assist in Partner Government Agency (PGA) determination, Country Of Origin (COO), and Customs Unit of Measure confirmation.
• Resolve trade research problems and abnormal conditions.
• Develop and manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for statistical reporting.
• Create and maintain Trade Research Operational Procedures and contribute to process improvements (kaizen).
• Utilize Global Trade Management System(s) to register key trade data for classification determinations.

Requirements

• Knowledge of Trade Regulations (15CFR, 19CFR).
• Understanding of parts, their functions, and materials.
• Ability to read technical documents and drawings for classification determination.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving, quality, and process development skills.
• Proven ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent Customs and Trade Compliance experience.
• Minimum of 6 months progressive HTS classification and/or ECCN determination experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Graduate Degree
• Professional Trade Compliance Certifications (e.g. CUSECO, CCS).
• Fundamental knowledge of Customs Regulations and their application to Import/Export Operations.
• Knowledge of SAP-GTS or other Global Trade Management System software.
