About the position

Perkins Coie's nationally recognized Trademark, Copyright, Internet & Advertising practice is seeking a highly motivated Paralegal to join its offices. This position will assist lawyers in the clearance and prosecution of U.S. and foreign trademark and copyright matters, including searches, enforcement, and due diligence. As a member of the Perkins Coie professional support staff team, this position is also responsible for promoting and maintaining the goodwill and reputation of the firm. In this capacity, the Paralegal is expected to maintain the highest level of professional conduct and confidentiality. The essential functions of this role include the ability to draft and file electronic trademark and service mark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, as well as preparing and filing copyright applications with the U.S. Copyright Office. The Paralegal will independently draft domestic and international office action responses, related prosecution documents, and correspondence to clients. Communication with foreign associates regarding international trademark matters is also a key responsibility. Additionally, the Paralegal will register and manage internet domain names, both generic and country extensions, and will have experience with adverse matters, demand letters, and domain name arbitrations. The role requires excellent accuracy in reviewing, monitoring, and maintaining docket deadlines, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment requiring frequent reprioritization of workloads to meet lawyer and client expectations. The Paralegal must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with team members, staff, and employees at all management levels within the firm and our clients' organizations. Strong judgment, initiative, leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills are essential to successfully drive projects to completion. Keeping accurate time and billing records and complying with clients' billing requirements is also a critical function of this position.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of trademark paralegal experience is required.
  • Paralegal experience working in a mid- to large-sized law firm is required.
  • A paralegal certificate is preferred.

  • High degree of integrity and enthusiasm for work.
