About the position

The Trades Specialist position at Babcock State Park involves performing a variety of semiskilled and skilled building trades work under general supervision. The role focuses on the repair, maintenance, and construction of state buildings and related structures, requiring a full-performance level of expertise. The employee will be responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment, performing carpentry, and conducting preventive and corrective maintenance on various systems, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of semiskilled and skilled building trades work in the repair, maintenance, or construction of state buildings and related structures.
  • Maintain and repair a variety of equipment.
  • Perform carpentry work such as building, repairing, and installing counters, cabinets, benches, tables, chairs, partitions, floors, steps, doors, building framework, and trim using hand and power tools.
  • Construct and repair structural woodwork and equipment from prints, drawings, or oral instructions.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on building HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems; troubleshoot electrical controls.
  • Repair equipment by replacing motors, belts, seals, bearings, and blades.
  • Repair drywall and masonry structures.
  • Repair and replace sinks, toilets, faucets, pipes, drains, and water lines.
  • Paint, finish, and decorate surfaces of buildings, equipment, machinery, and furnishings, both interior and exterior.
  • Prepare areas, erect scaffolding, clean surfaces, and mix paints and allied products.
  • Perform grounds work such as mowing, trimming, removing snow, sweeping sidewalks, and picking up trash.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a standard four-year high school or the equivalent.
  • Three years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience or paid self-employment in heating, cooling, ventilation, building maintenance, or building trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, plastering, welding, machining, or masonry.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification from a federal EPA approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the Clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
