About the position

The Trades Worker (Facilities Maintenance) position is responsible for performing general maintenance and repairs across various skilled and semi-skilled trades, including masonry, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. The role involves ensuring that public buildings and structures are safe, clean, and efficient, while working with minimal supervision and utilizing a variety of tools and equipment. This position requires a strong work ethic and the ability to handle physically demanding tasks in various environmental conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with and perform installation, maintenance, and repair tasks in various trades to support facility operations.
  • Perform carpentry work including renovation, installation, and repair of buildings and facilities.
  • Install, replace, and repair building structures such as flooring, ceilings, doors, and window frames.
  • Conduct minor plumbing repairs including replacing and repairing sinks and flushes.
  • Perform minor electrical repairs including replacing light fixtures and outlets.
  • Move and arrange office furniture and assist in landscape maintenance.
  • Paint interiors and exteriors of buildings as needed.
  • Utilize a variety of manual and powered hand tools for maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and machinery, ensuring safe operation and routine maintenance.
  • Set up work-site safety measures and conduct traffic control as necessary.
  • Respond to emergency situations to prevent injuries or hazardous conditions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years of responsible experience in a skilled trade such as masonry, carpentry, plumbing, or electrical work.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Considerable knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in skilled trades.
  • Skill in using various manual and electrical tools.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and lift up to 50 pounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with air conditioning and irrigation systems.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and practices in maintenance work.
