About the position
The Traditional Trades Advancement Program-Landscape Stewardship Corps intern at Hot Springs National Park offers a unique opportunity for young adults to gain hands-on experience in horticulture and landscape management. Participants will work alongside National Park Service staff to care for historic landscapes, contributing to cultural landscape preservation projects while developing valuable skills for a career in this field. This full-time position requires a 26-week commitment and provides training in various traditional landscape trades.
Responsibilities
- Assist with cultural landscape preservation projects
- Perform general tree care
- Manage turf and invasive species
- Engage in planting, mulching, mowing, weeding, and pruning
- Operate landscape equipment
- Complete other tasks as needed
Requirements
- Strong interest in history, horticulture, and the environment
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Adhere to NPS and ACE equipment training and safety protocols
- Participate in a week-long in-person training
- Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
- Age between 18-30 years (veterans up to 35 years)
- High School Diploma or GED
- Pass background checks including FBI and state criminal checks
- Provide proof of a driver's license and complete an MVR check
