About the position

The Traffic Analysis Specialist (TE3) at the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is responsible for leading and supervising a traffic analysis team. This role involves performing and reviewing traffic analyses, supporting design activities, and ensuring compliance with WSDOT policies. The position emphasizes workforce development, diversity, equity, inclusion, and resilience in transportation management.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare traffic analysis using traffic analysis and operation programs for Region Projects.
  • Review traffic analysis prepared outside of Olympic Region for consistency with WSDOT Traffic Analysis Policies and Protocols.
  • Review traffic impact analysis reports and intersection control evaluations for development services and design build projects.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert for Traffic Analysis and represent the Traffic Design Office in project meetings.
  • Lead, supervise, coach, and mentor a Traffic Analysis and Development Review Team.
  • Plan, prioritize, assign, and review the work of assigned staff.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in transportation, urban, regional or land use planning, engineering, public or business administration, economics or natural or physical sciences.
  • Three years of professional transportation experience involving analysis, evaluation, and documentation of transportation and environmental issues.
  • Knowledge of transportation planning principles and related federal and state laws, standards, and guidelines.
  • Experience developing or reviewing transportation or environmental-related technical documents, reports, and correspondence.
  • Experience conducting analysis using traffic operations software or travel demand models.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with others both written and orally.
  • Demonstrated leadership competencies to lead and supervise a diverse workforce.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year experience as a Transportation Engineer 3.
  • Two years of traffic engineering experience in Traffic Analysis, Freeway Operations, Traffic Operations, or Safety Analysis.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering Certificate (EIT).
  • Professional Engineer License (PE).
