About the position

The Traffic and ITS Engineer position at AECOM involves supporting planning studies, reviewing development proposals, and preparing detailed reports on transportation projects. The role requires knowledge of traffic engineering concepts and the use of traffic analysis software, with opportunities for career advancement based on initiative and understanding of design concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Supports planning studies and reports for new and updated plans, programs, and regulations.
  • Reviews or assists in the review of development proposals and site plans for conformance with codes, plans, and regulations.
  • Prepares and presents detailed reports on development proposals to government bodies.
  • Collects a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics such as census information, land use, transportation tax base data, and occupancy rates.
  • Responsible for preparing reports and studies and developing plans for various transportation facilities and traffic engineering projects.
  • Conducts field evaluations and assessments under direct supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 0-2 years' experience in developing traffic and ITS plans and performing traffic analysis internship or work experience.
  • Engineer-in-Training certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Synchro and HCS traffic analysis software, MicroStation and/or AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
  • Prior design experience with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and/or Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) related to traffic engineering, signal design, ITS design, plan production, project estimates, and specifications.
  • Applicable coursework in Transportation/Traffic Engineering and/or Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to work on a broad range of transportation projects.
