About the position
The School Flagger at Exeter High School is responsible for controlling and directing vehicle traffic after school at the entrance of Blue Hawk Drive on Route 27. This role ensures a continuous flow of traffic during peak dismissal times, prioritizing the safe and timely exit of school buses. The position requires working for one hour each school day, from 2:15 PM to 3:15 PM, at a pay rate of $50 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate traffic by stopping, slowing, and directing vehicles during peak school dismissal times using flags, signs, and hand signals.
- Set up and remove traffic cones, barriers, and signage as needed.
- Prioritize school buses exiting the school site in a timely manner.
- Ensure safety clothing is worn at all times.
- Report any safety concerns or incidents to school administration or law enforcement.
- Participate in training when requested by the supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and work in various weather conditions.
- Clear, firm, and courteous communication skills.
- Ability to interact calmly and positively with the public, including irritated drivers.
- Self-reliance to direct traffic for long periods with minimal or no supervision.
