About the position

The Traffic Controller/Flagger position at Safety Network is an entry-level role that involves working outdoors to ensure the safety of construction sites and the general public. As a Traffic Control Technician/Flagger, you will be responsible for setting up and maintaining traffic control measures, which include placing signs, barricades, and cones to direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic safely around work zones. This role requires a valid driver's license with a clean driving record for at least three years, as you will be transporting materials and equipment to various job sites. The position demands flexibility in availability, as you may be required to work overtime or double time depending on the needs of the job. You will receive in-house training to develop the necessary skills for traffic control and flagging activities. Your daily tasks will include checking in with dispatch for your assignments, gathering materials, and performing traffic control duties according to safety regulations. You will need to communicate effectively with both your team and the public, using verbal instructions as well as non-verbal signals. The job also involves maintaining a clean job site, performing preventative maintenance on your vehicle, and documenting your work accurately. Working conditions will vary, as you will be exposed to different weather elements, including heat in the summer and cold in the winter. Responsibilities

  • Transporting goods, materials, and/or equipment for various customers in a safe and timely manner.
  • Completing Temporary Traffic Control set-ups, take-downs, maintenance, and flagging to ensure safe work zones for customers and road users.
  • Checking in with dispatch every morning to pick up dispatch sheets, plans, routes, and gather materials needed for the job.
  • Performing traffic control and flagging activities as needed, following safety rules and regulations on all work zones and flagging sites.
  • Maintaining a clean job site by picking up all tools and equipment and securing the site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
  • Providing directions and safety instructions to the public and construction workers, utilizing effective verbal communication skills.
  • Observing and being aware of the environment to identify potential hazards and minimize risks.
  • Loading and unloading trucks, hauling, and lifting materials as required.
  • Performing preventative maintenance checks on trucks and trailers, including inspecting fluid levels and tire conditions.
  • Documenting all time worked, miles driven, and meal breaks accurately at the end of each day.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record for at least 3 years.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening.
  • Flexibility in availability for overtime and double time.
  • Experience in construction for at least 2 years.
