About the position

Under the direction of the Traffic Maintenance Supervisor, perform a variety of specialized and responsible duties involving the construction, maintenance, repair and placement of traffic signs, traffic signals, street lights, pavement markings and related structures exercising considerable independent judgement to ensure the safe and efficient flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Construct, maintain and remove temporary traffic control for special events and emergency response. Assist with the maintenance of City streets, alleys and storm systems as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform responsible duties in the construction, programming, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal equipment and associated structures.
  • Provide technical advice to construction inspectors for installations performed by contract services.
  • Perform quarterly operational and safety checks of signal systems using both visual inspection and electronic testing equipment.
  • Perform responsible duties in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the street light illumination systems.
  • Provide technical advice to construction inspectors for installations performed by contracted services.
  • Perform responsible duties in the construction, maintenance and repair of traffic regulatory, warning, school, guidance and other signage.
  • Fabricate new signs using graphics software and plotter.
  • Perform visual inspections to check for sight obstructions, cleanliness, retroreflectivity and damage.
  • Perform responsible duties in the construction and maintenance of both painted and permanent pavement markings.
  • Use and maintain painting equipment and associated tools used in pavement marking activities.
  • Perform temporary traffic control for special events, emergency services requests, winter snow events, flooding or any other emergency occurrence.
  • Operate a variety of heavy and light vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform data entry recording the installation, maintenance and repair of Traffic Service's assets.
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to those same assets.
  • Assure the maintenance of appropriate inventory levels of materials and supplies.
  • Respond to emergency situations on an on-call and rotating basis.
  • Communicate with the public to resolve complaints.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school and increasingly responsible traffic maintenance experience.
  • College level course work, industrial or military electronic experience preferred.
  • CDL preferred at time of hire.
  • Must obtain valid Class B commercial driver's license without a 'No Full Air Brake' restriction and a tanker endorsement within 12 months of hire.
  • Must obtain a State of Idaho approved flagging card within 6 months of hire.
  • Must obtain an OSHA 10 card within 1 year of hire.
  • Must obtain a Traffic Control Technician Certification within 18 months of hire.
  • Must obtain an International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Signals Level II Certification within 18 months of hire.
