About the position

The Michigan Recycling Coalition is seeking a self-motivated, collaborative problem-solver, and effective communicator to join our team as a Training and Community Outreach Coordinator. This position is crucial for implementing the MRC's Recycling Education and Outreach grant through the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The Outreach Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Executive Director and Education Program Coordinator, focusing on enhancing community recycling education and outreach efforts. The role will also involve supporting Coalition business, which includes various administrative and logistical duties as assigned. In this position, the Outreach Coordinator will conduct research to ensure best practices for community recycling education training and campaigns. This includes performing analytics to inform, develop, and evaluate educational programming. The Coordinator will oversee, organize, prepare, and present training materials and programs tailored for both professional and community-based audiences. Additionally, the role involves assisting the Education Program Coordinator in direct outreach and support of EPA Justice40 communities to develop and deliver effective recycling education programming. The Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining both digital and physical records, as well as writing progress reports on grant activities for the U.S. EPA. The position also requires supporting the monitoring and maintenance of the organizational website(s) and digital communications, maintaining a calendar to coordinate workflow and meetings, and interacting professionally and collaboratively with the MRC Board, members, contractors, staff, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be self-driven, communicative, and excited to join a dynamic team of recycling leaders, supporting the growth of the MRC and its mission, vision, goals, and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research to ensure best practices for community recycling education training and campaigns.
  • Conduct research and analytics to inform, develop, and evaluate educational programming.
  • Oversee, organize, prepare, and present training materials and programs for both professional and community-based audiences.
  • Assist the Education Program Coordinator in direct outreach and support of EPA Justice40 communities to develop and deliver recycling education programming.
  • Develop, coordinate, and maintain digital and physical records and write progress reports on grant activities for the U.S EPA.
  • Support monitoring and maintenance of organizational website(s) and digital communications.
  • Maintain a calendar to coordinate work flow and meetings.
  • Interact professionally and collaboratively with the MRC Board, members, contractors, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Support growth of the MRC, its mission, vision, goals, and objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in environmental studies, resource management, environmental education, or a related field of study.
  • Experience with recycling/composting or environmental adjacent work: 1 year (Preferred).
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills including technical writing.
  • Experience with database management and research/analytics.
  • Experience with event planning and logistics.
  • Knowledge of and interest in recycling/composting industries.
  • Willingness to travel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Google Workspace and Canva for document management.
  • Ability to create, modify, and manage documents through web-based applications.
