About the position

The City of Port St. Lucie is offering an internship opportunity within the Human Resources Department, specifically in the Training & Development Division. This internship is designed to provide selected students with real-world experience that will enhance their knowledge and skill set in the field of Human Resources. Interns are expected to work twenty (20) hours a week for a duration of six (6) months, with a schedule that may vary based on departmental needs. Attendance is crucial, and interns are required to maintain a professional attitude, appearance, and work ethic throughout their tenure. The internship is treated as a significant career opportunity, and adherence to professional standards is mandatory, as failure to do so may lead to termination of the internship. Interns will be involved in various essential duties that include assisting with Human Resources projects related to Training and Development and Talent Management. They will market upcoming training events to internal staff, conduct research to identify future training topics, and gather data related to training events. This includes updating attendance rosters, evaluating past training sessions, and collecting requests for future training topics. Additionally, interns will support day-to-day administrative tasks within the Human Resources Department, assist with the oversight of the Learning Management System, maintain training files, and coordinate the setup of training rooms and equipment. The role emphasizes the importance of building trust and confidence within the community and providing excellent customer service while maintaining high productivity levels.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with various Human Resources related projects regarding Training and Development and Talent Management.
  • Market upcoming training events with internal staff.
  • Conduct research and gather information identifying future core topics, including professional and performance management training.
  • Gather data pertaining to training events, such as updating and maintaining past employee attendance rosters and evaluation survey results.
  • Support day-to-day administrative tasks and activities within the City's Human Resources Department related to Training and Development.
  • Assist with Learning Management System oversight and data entry.
  • Maintain training files, manuals, forms, and reports necessary for training programs.
  • Collect and audit training metrics and dashboard reports.
  • Coordinate training room setup, equipment, and supplies.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required.
  • Current enrollment at an accredited College or University and good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have previous Human Resources experience.
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of a clean driving record required.
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Ability to focus on the positive in every situation.
  • Ability to model respect for individuals, teams, and the organization.
