About the position

The Training Specialist position at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is located at the Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport (BWI). In this role, you will serve as a vital liaison concerning training matters between the Federal Security Director and TSA Headquarters, including the Office of Workforce Performance and Training and the Aviation Programs Office. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the planning, directing, scheduling, evaluation, and integration of training and professional services for the TSA workforce. This position is crucial for ensuring that TSA personnel are well-trained and equipped to safeguard the American way of life by securing transportation infrastructure across the country. As a Training Specialist, you will coordinate airport-wide training programs and professional development services. Your duties will encompass scheduling, evaluating, and facilitating training sessions, including screener recertification and performance improvement activities. You will also provide guidance to the Federal Security Director's staff regarding training and career development needs, maintain training databases, and document training activities in a web-based learning management system. Additionally, you will assist in managing instructors and coordinating with contractors who conduct training, acting as a TSA Approved Instructor (TAI) or Test Administrator when necessary. This position requires a proactive approach to training management, ensuring that all employees are current on their training status and informed about upcoming training opportunities. You will play a key role in enhancing the skills and competencies of TSA personnel, thereby contributing to the overall mission of the TSA to secure travel and protect people.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in scheduling, evaluating, and facilitating training, screener recertification, and screener performance improvement activities within the airport.
  • Provide advice and guidance to the Federal Security Director's staff regarding training and career development needs and programs.
  • Maintain training database and files; document training activities/accomplishments in a web-based learning management system.
  • Keep current on employees' training status and distribute information about upcoming training opportunities as necessary.
  • Manage instructors, including working with TSA Approved Instructors (TAI) and coordinating with contractors who conduct training.
  • Act as TAI or Test Administrator.
  • Schedule new hire training.

Requirements

  • Must possess U.S. Citizenship or be a U.S. National.
  • Must complete a favorable Background Investigation (BI).
  • Selective Service registration is required.
  • One year of specialized experience at the SV-G or GS-11 level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector.
  • Experience facilitating training events, either on-the-job or formal classroom training, for co-workers or subordinates.
  • Experience initiating, tracking, and maintaining comprehensive training records.
  • Experience assisting with keeping employees current on their training status.
  • Experience assisting in coordinating the execution of training plans.
  • Experience preparing training-related materials for briefings and meetings.
