About the position

The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of administrative functions for the Department of Military Instruction's (DMI) Headquarters, Accessions, Military Science and Training (MST), Defense and Strategic Studies (DSS) and West Point Simulations Center (WPSC) programs.
  • Coordinate with course directors and create schedules and standard operating procedures (SOP) for end of term procedures.
  • Point of contact for assistance on Academy Management System (AMS) and Canvas site, to include, Graybook manager, military training inquiries, deficiency memos and grade management/input.
  • Primary government purchase card (GPC) holder and processor for the department.
  • Provide the department Defense Travel System (DTS) processing and database management support.
  • Responsible for coordinating training requirements and administrative needs for various missions at summer training to the Corps of Cadets at West Point, Camp Buckner, and Lake Frederick.
  • Assist with Department of Military Instruction's (DMI) Civilian Personnel in-processing, as directed, by Deputy Director and/or Department Executive Officer.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Performing administrative duties in support of an organization's training program and/or courses, such as, monitoring the completion of training and/or coordinating travel arrangements; 2) Utilizing office automation software and/or database systems to produce/maintain data; AND 3) Providing oversight and/or administration for a purchase card program.
  • Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Business Administration, Business Management, Education, or another related field.
  • A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
  • Proficiency in typing 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
