About the position

The Transition Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (TVRC) position at the Texas Workforce Commission focuses on providing vocational rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities. The role involves assisting students in achieving their employment goals through critical thinking, case management, and collaboration with community resources. The TVRC will work with a diverse population, including those with visual impairments, and will have opportunities for career advancement within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provides quality Transition Services to students with disabilities, including those who may be potentially eligible.
  • Develops and maintains relations with community referral sources, businesses, employers, and schools.
  • Collects and analyzes all information necessary to make an accurate eligibility decision.
  • Assists students in choosing appropriate employment by analyzing their strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities, and interests.
  • Participates with local education agencies and families to support students in acquiring necessary academic, work, and life skills.
  • Works collaboratively with students to develop a plan of services designed to achieve their identified employment goals.
  • Creates and maintains student records and performs case load management.
  • Ensures timely, cost-effective provision of services and student progress toward their employment goals.
  • Develops and implements a process leading to successful job placement for students.
  • Maintains resource information and obtains appropriate referrals to reach blind or visually impaired students.
  • Works with Regional Employment Assistance Specialists and/or Business Relation Specialists to build relationships with businesses for career exploration experiences.
  • Accounts for case service expenditures and delivery of services to maintain adherence to established funding/expenditure directives.
  • May act as a Team Leader to assigned support staff for designated caseload.
  • Participates in training activities for staff development.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from an accredited college or university; OR a master's degree in counseling or related fields with one year of related work experience; OR a bachelor's degree in vocational rehabilitation with one year of related work experience; OR a bachelor's degree in counseling or related fields with two years of related work experience; OR a bachelor's degree in any other major with three years of related work experience.
  • Valid LPC license and CRC certification preferred.
  • Experience in vocational rehabilitation services.

Nice-to-haves
