About the position

The Transfer Counselor at Texas A&M University - Kingsville plays a crucial role in identifying, recruiting, and supporting underrepresented transfer students from two-year institutions to enhance enrollment. This position involves mentoring, coordinating travel, and developing transfer plans, while also serving as a liaison between prospective students and the university's admissions process.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies, recruits, and contributes to increasing the population of admitted, enrolled, and underrepresented transfer students.
  • Develops an effective plan for working with area two-year institutions.
  • Coordinates with two-year institutions to facilitate the applications process.
  • Tracks and follows up with targeted students.
  • Advises prospective students about admissions statuses, policies, and office programs.
  • Develops working relationships with TAMUS members, departments, counselors, and advisors to enhance customer service and satisfaction.
  • Disseminates admissions information.
  • Reviews admission applications and assists in conducting third reviews of applications.
  • Works directly with applicants' parents to resolve extenuating circumstances, complaints, and appeals of admissions denials.
  • Completes reports on programs/projects.
  • Proposes, organizes, plans, and coordinates events.
  • Coordinates with Title V grant Team to meet grant goals and objectives.
  • Assists with scholarship program for incoming students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Knowledge of admissions functions of higher education.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree as per grant awarded by the Department of Education.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Two years of conducting trainings and workshops.
  • Assist with data collection and evaluation to meet all grant goals and objectives.
