About the position
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy machinery at a recycling facility, landfill, or transfer station. This role involves transferring, spreading, covering, loading, and compacting waste or soil while adhering to safety standards and company policies. The operator will conduct inspections, monitor equipment conditions, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Perform pre- and post-operation inspection of the equipment in accordance with Company policy.
- Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders.
- Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
- Monitor the condition of the equipment to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime.
- Perform and document minor service on equipment, referring complex issues to the Maintenance Shop.
- Complete Equipment Condition Reports and report necessary repairs to the supervisor.
- Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure that the shop is clean, serviced, and stored at the end of each shift.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Two years of prior related experience in heavy equipment operation.
- One year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
- Good customer service skills to meet and exceed customer expectations.
- Good time management skills to ensure responsibilities are completed efficiently and safely.
- Ability to adhere to Company policies and promote safety standards.

- Experience in recycling or waste management operations.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations related to waste management.
