About the position

The Transit Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a pivotal executive role within Metro Transit, responsible for leading and directing the internal operations to enhance organizational effectiveness. This position reports directly to the Transit General Manager (GM) and plays a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction of the transit system. The COO is tasked with identifying and implementing innovative approaches and technologies aimed at improving customer service, operational performance, safety, and fostering teamwork across the organization. A key aspect of this role is the commitment to infusing principles of racial equity, social justice, and inclusion into all facets of the work and culture at Metro Transit. The COO is expected to exemplify these values and set a tone of continuous improvement throughout the organization. This includes ensuring that resources are utilized in a cost-effective manner while striving for excellence in service delivery and operational efficiency. The position requires a forward-thinking leader who can navigate the complexities of public transit operations and drive positive change within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction for Metro Transit’s internal operations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible managerial experience in a public transit role.
  • At least two (2) years of experience at a manager, director, or chief level.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Alternatively, seven (7) years of experience in a public transit role with at least five (5) years of managerial experience and two (2) years at a manager, director, or chief level.
