About the position

The Transit Customer Advocate serves as a frontline representative for Chatham Area Transit Authority (CAT), providing exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers. This role involves handling inquiries, comments, complaints, and questions, ensuring a positive experience for every guest. The position requires effective communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage a high volume of calls while maintaining professionalism and courtesy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a positive customer experience during every interaction.
  • Handle a steady volume of inquiries, comments, and complaints from customers.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully over the phone.
  • Make accurate appointments for customers' transportation needs.
  • Manage sensitive and confidential situations with discretion.
  • Assist with multiple tasks and work well under pressure.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility in work schedules.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of customer service or call center experience required.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Public transportation experience preferred.
  • College coursework in a related field preferred.
