About the position

The Transit Support Specialist at Cone Health plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of patients within the hospital. The Transit Support Specialist operates under direct supervision and is responsible for responding to transport requests in a timely manner, ensuring that each patient is treated with kindness and respect throughout their journey within the hospital. In this role, the specialist will transport patients using wheelchairs, stretchers, or hospital beds, while meticulously checking identification information to confirm that the correct patient is being transported at the appropriate time. Adherence to safety policies and guidelines is paramount, as the specialist must ensure that all transport activities are conducted safely and in compliance with hospital regulations. The Transit Support Specialist will utilize appropriate documentation tools, such as the Hand-Off tool (Hall Pass, Ticket-to Ride, or other), to accurately record patient status, location, and condition during transport. Maintaining a professional demeanor is essential, as the specialist will provide customer service to assist staff, patients, and their families, addressing any questions or concerns regarding transport services. Additionally, the role includes responsibilities for cleaning and monitoring transport equipment to identify any issues that may necessitate repair or replacement. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the overall operations of the hospital transport team.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients from one area of the hospital to another, checking their identification information to confirm that the correct person is being transported at the correct time.
  • Complies with safety policies and guidelines to ensure that patients are transported safely and within regulation.
  • Uses the appropriate Hand-Off tool (Hall Pass, Ticket-to Ride, or other) to document accurately patient status, location and condition.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor and provides customer service to assist staff, patients and their families and help answer any pertinent questions about transport.
  • Cleans and monitors equipment to find issues that would require the equipment to be replaced or repaired.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 0-1 years of experience in a hospital setting required.
  • BLS (CPR) certification from American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider required.
