About the position

The Transition Specialist at Foster-Glocester Regional Schools is responsible for overseeing the implementation of individual Career Development Plans (CDPs) for students, particularly those with disabilities. This role involves developing and monitoring transition services, coordinating work-based learning opportunities, and providing support to students and job coaches. The specialist will also conduct evaluations, collaborate with staff, and ensure compliance with Department of Justice requirements under the Consent Decree.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of a school-wide plan for transition services under the DOJ Consent Decree.
  • Develop and monitor contracts for work-based learning sites in the community.
  • Organize and schedule student and job coach assignments and transportation for work-based learning experiences.
  • Meet with employers at work-based learning sites to establish learning formats and assessment processes.
  • Conduct community market analysis and develop paid employment opportunities for students with disabilities.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of transition services and compliance of work-based learning experiences.
  • Record, collect, and analyze performance data on work-based learning sites.
  • Train and supervise job coaches for non-paid work-based learning sites.
  • Assist students and job coaches on work-based learning sites as needed.
  • Monitor the administration of transition assessments to identify student strengths and needs.
  • Counsel staff regarding transition assessment results and postsecondary goals.
  • Provide professional development on transition service requirements to school staff.
  • Act as the transition contact for administrators, teachers, parents, and community partners.
  • Consult with special education staff on transition opportunities for students.
  • Collaborate with secondary staff in IEP preparation and transition services.
  • Attend CDP/IEP meetings to assist in developing transition services.
  • Work with agency representatives to provide information sessions for students and parents.
  • Report to RIDE quarterly and represent at TAC meetings and statewide Transition events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Requirements

  • Experience in developing and implementing transition services for students with disabilities.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders including employers, educators, and community partners.
  • Knowledge of career development planning and work-based learning programs.
  • Experience in training and supervising staff or job coaches.

Nice-to-haves
