About the position

Savage Services is seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Part Time Transload Operator to join our team in Los Angeles, CA. The primary responsibility of the Transload Operator is to safely and efficiently unload rail cars to trucks within the customer's facility. This position is part-time, scheduled from Monday to Friday, typically from 10 AM to 3 PM, with occasional adjustments to hours and potential Sunday coverage based on customer needs. In this role, you will be responsible for the daily unloading of dry products, specifically malt barley. You will need to understand and adhere to operating procedures and policies while operating and maintaining railcar and transloading equipment, which includes hoses, transfer pumps, and portable stair systems. Safety is paramount; therefore, you will enforce safety policies and procedures with truck drivers, team members, and visitors. Additionally, you will perform general maintenance on equipment and interact with customers, railroad crews, and visitors. A key requirement for this position is the ability to read, write, and understand instructions in English, ensuring effective communication and adherence to safety protocols. The ideal candidate will be mechanically inclined, physically fit, and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions. You may also be required to travel to other transload terminals to assist as needed, which could involve being away for up to a week at a time. Responsibilities

  • Safely and timely unload rail cars to trucks within the customer's facility.
  • Daily unloading of dry products (malt barley).
  • Understand and follow operating procedures and policies.
  • Operate and maintain railcar/trans loading equipment (e.g., hoses, transfer pumps, portable stair systems, small to medium sized equipment).
  • Perform work safely and productively.
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures with truck drivers, team members, and visitors.
  • Perform general maintenance on equipment.
  • Interact with customers, railroad crews, and visitors.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand instructions in English.
  • Physically able to climb up and down railcars/ladders safely.
  • Willing to receive general safety training.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions (snow, rain, sub-freezing temps).
  • Willing to work with liquid hazardous and dry bulk materials.
  • Can carry at least fifty (50) pounds.
  • In good physical condition (able to walk one (1) to two (2) miles per shift).

Benefits

  • Pay range of $22.00 to $24.00 per hour.
