The engineer performs civil and structural design in support of projects, engineering studies, engineering design calculations, and project management activities for the maintenance and renovation of existing, or design and construction of new transmission lines, structures, structure foundations; and other facilities. This role is crucial in ensuring the reliability and performance of Ameren's transmission infrastructure, which spans over 8,000 miles across various energy markets. The engineer will be involved in a range of activities that include detailed design work, project coordination, and quality control during construction phases. Key responsibilities include performing detailed civil, structural, and foundation design associated with new and aging infrastructure. The engineer will work cooperatively with the drafting group to complete drawings, which typically consist of deep foundation design to support steel monopoles, load development for transmission line structures, and modifications to existing transmission structures. The role may also involve occasional site maintenance of transmission line right of way. Additionally, the engineer will prepare specifications for materials and construction contracts, bid documents, and drawing packages, while assisting in the development of cost and schedule estimates. Coordination is a significant aspect of this position, as the engineer will need to liaise with other departments and outside companies, including real estate, drafting, environmental services, construction crews, contractors, and consulting firms. Effective project management skills are essential, as the engineer will be responsible for maintaining schedules, tracking project progress, and managing the civil/structural aspects of large transmission line projects. The role also includes facilitating the acquisition of permits for construction activities and performing site visits during design and construction to ensure quality control.
