About the position

Kimley-Horn's Greenwood Village, Colorado office is seeking a Transmission Line Engineer or Analyst with over 3 years of experience to join their Power Delivery team. This role focuses on the design and analysis of power delivery infrastructure systems, including transmission and distribution lines, and substations. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and a commitment to quality work that promotes client retention.

Responsibilities

  • Design of Power Delivery Infrastructure systems including transmission lines, distribution lines, and substations
  • Perform structural analysis and design of monopole, lattice, framed, and guyed structures
  • Lead project teams in an active production role
  • Lead project meetings internally and externally with clients
  • Preparation of conceptual and detailed calculations to support the creation of construction documents and specifications
  • Daily interaction and collaboration on cross-functional teams across multiple disciplines
  • Coordination and verification of as-built drawings
  • Perform quality work that promotes client retention
  • Responsible for the development of reports and design documents

Requirements

  • 3+ years of design experience in engineering specifically in transmission, distribution, or communication line design
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (advanced degrees are a plus)
  • PE or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Ability to focus and work on creative solutions to engineering problems
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment effectively
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), Rural Utility Service (RUS) Electrical Bulletins, ASCE-7, or California General Order 95, and other ASCE/IEEE/CIGRE standards
  • Ability to design structures using multiple materials
  • Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD)
  • Transmission Line Modeling (PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole) experience is a plus
  • Experience with lattice towers is a plus
