About the position

The Transmission Line Engineer at Halff will play a crucial role in the design and execution of transmission line projects, contributing to the full project life cycle from concept through construction. This position offers an opportunity to mentor less experienced engineers, develop engineering standards, and enhance project execution processes within a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing designs, construction packages, and bills of material for transmission line projects.
  • Providing engineering support throughout the project life cycle from concept to as-builts.
  • Driving and supporting the permitting processes for transmission projects at various governmental levels.
  • Interpreting geotechnical reports and designing various foundation types using CAISSON, LPILE, or MFAD.
  • Providing technical guidance on routing, structure spotting, and right-of-way requirements for transmission line projects.
  • Performing QA/QC of designs and construction packages prepared by other engineers or technicians.
  • Mentoring and training Project Engineers, EITs, Designers, and CADD Technicians.
  • Assisting in the development of engineering design philosophies and standards.
  • Continuously seeking improvements in project execution processes, including safety and quality.
  • Developing technical specifications and bid documents, and assisting clients with the bid process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Civil, Structural, or Architectural preferred).
  • 5+ years of transmission line engineering experience up to 345kV with a consulting firm or electric utility.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite.
  • Experience in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-LITE, and AutoCAD.
  • Foundations design experience using CAISSON, LPILE, or MFAD.
  • Experience applying industry codes and standards, including NESC, ASCE, NEC, and ACI 318.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to acquire Texas PE within 6 months.
  • Experience with PLS-Tower, SAG10, ArcGIS, and distribution line design.
  • Transmission line design experience with 500kV and/or 765kV line enhancements or new builds.
  • Prior experience developing design standards and/or QA/QC processes and procedures.
  • Experience working with renewables developers and/or the interconnection of renewables.
