About the position

The Transmission Lineman Apprentice position at OG&E is a training role designed to equip individuals with the skills necessary for the installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of transmission and distribution systems. This apprenticeship combines classroom instruction, computer-based learning, and hands-on training to prepare apprentices for advancement to journey-level positions, where they will take on greater responsibilities and earn higher pay.

Responsibilities

  • Constructs and maintains transmission systems in accordance with approved construction standards and work methods.
  • Utilizes equipment, materials, and manpower in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.
  • Projects a positive company image by maintaining a good appearance and working relationship with internal and external customers.
  • Maintains and operates assigned vehicle used in performance of duties.
  • Attends and participates in safety meetings, schools, and training sessions regarding safe and proper performance of duties.
  • Climbs poles, sets poles, and strings wire, utilizing and operating equipment such as aerial bucket trucks and other construction equipment.
  • Operates a variety of electronic and other test equipment with a high degree of efficiency, as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and prior military experience at the journey level in a craft technical/mechanical for at least one enlistment as documented on DD Form 214.
  • High School Diploma/GED and 2 years utility lineman experience.
  • Associate's Degree or certificate of completion in a Technical discipline (i.e. High Voltage/Power Line Technology).
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with DOT certification with no DOT restrictions other than O restriction.
