About the position

The Engineer II - Transmission Operations is responsible for providing technical consulting to the Transmission Operations Department, ensuring the integrity, reliability, and safe operation of OPPD's Transmission System. This role involves compliance with NERC Operating Reliability Standards, analyzing transmission outage data, and preparing operational guides for constrained electric facilities. The engineer will collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to deliver exceptional customer service and support operational investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical consulting to the Transmission Operations Department through engineering analysis.
  • Ensure the integrity, reliability, and safe operation of OPPD's Transmission System.
  • Analyze and track Transmission outage data and conduct planned outage analysis.
  • Prepare operational guides to address constrained electric facilities.
  • Work with internal and external customers in a technical advisory capacity.
  • Provide planning, engineering, and construction departments with expert operations technical advice.
  • Participate on local and regional operations committees when applicable.
  • Recommend operating criteria and system improvement projects to T&D System Planning.
  • Provide technical support for real-time Transmission operations including outage analysis and power flows.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC Reliability Standards and SPP operating protocols.
  • Utilize and develop knowledge of analytical operating tools for power system analysis.
  • Collaborate with other work groups to implement new technologies.
  • Perform outage scheduling and coordination with regional entities.
  • Track, analyze, and correct transmission outage data for reporting and process recommendations.
  • Participate in planning and scheduling of switching functions for safe operation of the Transmission System.
  • Maintain 24-hour availability for technical assistance and emergency response.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Two years of equivalent engineering work experience; a Master's degree may be considered for up to two years of experience.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Degree with an emphasis in power systems studies.
  • NERC Operator Certification or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Experience using advanced modeling software for operational studies and analyses.
  • Working knowledge of EMS/SCADA hardware and software.
  • Co-op, internship, or other relevant program experience.
  • Experience with converged IT/OT environments.
  • Effective communication skills with co-workers, vendors, and customers.
  • Self-starting and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Familiarity with Electric Utility Operations, Planning, Design, and Construction Practices.
