About the position

FirstEnergy is a forward-thinking electric utility dedicated to integrity, safety, reliability, and operational excellence. This position is with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., and is open to multiple roles across various locations. The successful candidate will assist the Project Manager in monitoring and controlling projects to ensure they meet the approved scope, cost, and schedule. This role involves coordinating all aspects of work related to transmission line, substation, communication, and security projects. Employees in this entry-level position will apply their education and experience to work situations, exercising independent judgment on basic projects and assignments while providing support to management and higher-level professionals. The responsibilities include reviewing project documents for clarity and completeness, assisting in the development of bid packages, requisitions, and engineering work requests. The candidate will also review project and contract budgets, assist in monitoring cost variances, and coordinate change management requests. Participation in weekly coordination meetings with contractors and engineers is essential, as is monitoring contractor resource levels and understanding contract terms. The role supports the Project Manager in ensuring project challenge meetings and peer reviews are conducted, and in maintaining project files for accurate information retrieval during the project closeout process. Additionally, the candidate will document lessons learned and assist in auditing projects to evaluate whether objectives and benefits have been realized.

Responsibilities

  • Review project documents for clarity and completeness.
  • Assist in the development of project documents such as bid packages and requisitions.
  • Review project and contract budgets for adequacy and completeness.
  • Assist the Project Manager in monitoring and reporting cost variances and forecasts.
  • Coordinate change management requests for scope, schedule, and costs as instructed by the Project Manager.
  • Participate in and document weekly internal and external coordination meetings with contractors, engineers, and suppliers.
  • Monitor and report contractor resource levels.
  • Understand the terms of the contract and associated documentation of services under the contract/purchase order.
  • Support the Project Manager in ensuring project challenge meetings, peer reviews, and assessments are performed.
  • Support the development, update, and issuance of the project schedule.
  • Assist the Project Manager in identifying additional resources or requirements necessary to meet the Project scope or schedule.
  • Maintain project files and information to support the accurate retrieval of information for the Project closeout process.
  • Coordinate the completion of all close-out documentation and support the Project Manager in conducting lessons-learned meetings.
  • Document lessons learned meetings and assist the Project Manager in auditing projects to evaluate whether identified objectives and benefits have been realized.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Construction Management or related field is required.
  • Consideration given to non-degreed candidates with over 4 years' related project management experience or 2 years' transmission experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Strong analytical ability is required.
  • Must be a team player and possess a willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Must be willing to travel to assigned project locations throughout the service territory.
