About the position

The Transplant Education Coordinator at UVA Medical Center is responsible for promoting the professional growth of the digestive health team by planning, organizing, developing, and directing in-service educational programs. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local standards while maintaining high-quality care. The coordinator will lead the development and evaluation of educational programs, assist nursing personnel in obtaining necessary training, and maintain accurate records of all educational activities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, direct, evaluate, and coordinate educational and on-the-job training programs.
  • Provide leadership in formulating the goals and objectives of the in-service educational programs of digestive health.
  • Develop, evaluate and control the quality of in-service educational programs in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Secure, develop and maintain records, reports, instructional manuals, reference materials, etc., pertinent to in-service educational programs.
  • Assume the authority, responsibility and accountability of directing the in-service educational programs.
  • Develop and participate in the planning, conducting, and scheduling of orientation programs for newly hired personnel.
  • Assist licensed nursing personnel in obtaining in-service training to keep their license current in accordance with state law.
  • Assist unlicensed personnel in obtaining necessary experience and training to advance through the Digestive Health technician career ladder.
  • Work to ensure team members are pursuing GI-specific certifications and provide necessary training to support this goal.
  • Ensure that individual employee training records are maintained and filed in the employee's personnel record.
  • Recommend to the administrator the equipment and supply needs of the department.
  • Meet with department directors, managers, and supervisors to solicit advice concerning their training needs and assist in identifying and correcting problem areas.
  • Implement recommendations from the Digestive Health quality processes as they relate to the educational needs of the teams/facility.
  • Maintain Occupational Health and Safety (OSHA), medical, and educational records for all employees.
  • Validate completion of competency validation record for all nursing personnel upon hire, annually, and as needed.
  • Coordinate and maintain CPR/ACLS/BLS certifications for licensed nursing personnel.
  • Identify, develop, and implement in-service programs according to staff performance to correct identified needs.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing degree required.
  • 3+ years' experience in an acute care setting required.
  • 2+ years' experience in clinical education preferred.
