About the position

The Transport Engineer III at Windstream is responsible for enhancing customer experience by developing software solutions that automate the resolution of complex network challenges. This role involves analyzing service-impacting events, improving network reliability, and contributing to the overall stability of the network through innovative engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Organize complex activities for the development, implementation, and maintenance of engineering projects.
• Perform analysis and studies to determine requirements and design plans.
• Utilize professional concepts and company objectives to creatively resolve issues.
• Act as a technical consultant and subject matter expert within and outside the assigned department.
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships using high-level communication skills.
• Make independent decisions with considerable latitude for unreviewed actions.
• Conduct engineering design evaluations for cost-effective material utilization.
• Design, develop, test, and implement components, equipment, and software within the organization.
• Promote positive change in business strategy through customer objectives and technological innovation.

Requirements

• College degree and 5-7 years' experience or 9+ years equivalent related Engineering/Technical experience.
• Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize projects.
• Broad understanding of network infrastructure and telecommunications industry.
• Experience writing clean and maintainable code.
• Extensive knowledge of engineering disciplines and vendor equipment.
• Familiarity with navigating legacy code bases and applying best practices.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and custom planning tools.
• Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
• Well-developed leadership qualities.
• Ability to stay current with economic and technological developments in the industry.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with developing monitoring processes for network performance and reliability.
• Ability to monitor networks via SNMP, telnet, and SSH.
• Experience recommending cost-effective improvements to existing processes.
