About the position

The Outbound Logistics Specialist at Hitachi Energy USA Inc. is responsible for coordinating outbound shipments for various business units, primarily focusing on ground shipments but also handling air and ocean shipments as necessary. This role involves making critical decisions that affect cost and service while ensuring customer requirements are met. The specialist will work to continuously improve transport execution and logistics design, emphasizing customer service and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Execute domestic, inbound and outbound shipments including planning and scheduling for air, ocean, and ground transport.
  • Request bookings with selected carriers or forwarders and coordinate the pick-up of goods.
  • Assist and monitor the customs clearance process and coordinate final mile delivery.
  • Utilize a Transportation Management System (TMS) to execute domestic shipments effectively.
  • Provide optimal transportation options based on transit time, cost, and service.
  • Track shipments using carrier web portals until final delivery is achieved.
  • Measure key performance indicators (KPIs) related to on-time pick-up and delivery, analyzing causes of any delays.
  • Prepare and update logistics reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to ensure timely delivery.
  • Communicate shipment statuses to Planning and Sales organizations as necessary.
  • Collaborate with transport service providers to ensure efficient execution of logistics processes and assist with necessary transport permits and documentation.
  • Support the Customs team for import and export clearance and assist accounts payable with freight payment reconciliation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Foreign Trade, Supply Chain Management, or a similar field.
  • 5+ years of experience in transportation management, specifically with domestic inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven experience working with logistics suppliers such as freight forwarders, ocean carriers, and customs brokers.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with customers and logistics providers.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently with a sense of urgency and as a team player with flexibility in working different shifts.
  • Work authorization to permit employment with Hitachi Energy in the United States.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish.
  • Experience with advanced Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
  • Knowledge of the local transport market, including equipment, port and airport operations, and relevant regulations.
  • General knowledge of local transportation networks.
  • Advanced desktop computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience in production scheduling, distribution, materials, and inventory planning.
  • Experience with freight settlement processes.
