About the position

This position will be filled in the Engineering Technology Unit (ETU) of the Design Mapping and Automation Bureau in the Office of Design. The Engineering Technology Unit (ETU) manages and maintains the CADD software and related technology needed in the Office of Design and throughout the entire Department. ETU develops and issues policies, standards, and guidance related to the use of CADD technology. They manage the Department's Engineering Document Management System which stores over 3.2 million files (over 1.3 million active & over 1.9 million archived) and serves NYSDOT staff, consultants, contractors, and external agencies. ETU also provides training and technical assistance to the Office of Design and other Department units.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Department's Engineering Document Management System (ProjectWise).
  • Collect and analyze technology usage, process, quality, information technologies, and organizational effectiveness data required to assess performance and make recommendations to Office of Design managers.
  • Use various department-wide technologies, computer databases, systems, and other applications for the timely collection and analysis of data.
  • Monitor and report on statewide trends to ensure that desired goals and targets are being achieved.
  • Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining systems (including the Engineering Document Management System), procedures, and manuals in support of capital project development and delivery.
  • Promote and manage statewide best practices through proper use of CADD applications during the project development and design process.
  • Act as the IT coordinator for the Office of Design.

Requirements

  • Transportation Analyst Trainee 1: A bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 qualifying semester credit hours.
  • Transportation Analyst Trainee 2: A bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 qualifying semester credit hours AND either 1. One year of qualifying experience OR 2. A master's degree including or supplemented by 24 qualifying semester credit hours.
  • Transportation Analyst: A bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 qualifying semester credit hours AND either 1. Two years of qualifying experience OR 2. A master's degree including or supplemented by 24 qualifying semester credit hours AND one year of qualifying experience.
