About the position

Bowman Consulting Group is seeking a Transportation Assistant Project Manager in Richmond, VA, to apply administration, technical, and management techniques for the successful completion of transportation and infrastructure projects. The role focuses on developing sustainable transportation solutions that enhance community livability by reducing traffic congestion and improving safety for all users. The position involves leadership, project management, and technical tasks to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Receive broad guidance from senior-level management relating to overall key objectives and critical issues.
  • Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution of projects.
  • Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
  • Supervise the work of project personnel to ensure high professional standards.
  • Provide mentorship to junior staff for their professional development.
  • Assist with transportation engineering and planning work under senior members.
  • Complete technical project tasks independently and proficiently.
  • Assist in project management tasks including budgeting, staffing, and scheduling.
  • Draft documentation such as transmittals, memos, and proposals.
  • Prepare reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for projects.
  • Monitor project deliverable schedules and compile status reports.
  • Provide technical assistance in resolving project challenges and ensure quality control.
  • Prepare client presentations and attend public meetings.
  • Review project changes and assist with preparation of monthly billings.
  • Serve as a liaison between clients, agencies, and project teams.
  • Lead the preparation of proposals and technical submissions for projects.
  • Follow established goals, SOPs, and QA/QC procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field required.
  • Eight or more years of professional engineering experience with an emphasis on transportation engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering projects or major task elements.
  • EIT Registration required or nine or more years of successful transportation engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Registration or ability to receive within six months preferred.
  • Experience with preparation of construction plans and/or studies for roadway or traffic projects required.
  • Experience directing tasks and performing QA/QC required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Valid state driver's license and ability to pass a motor vehicle check.
