About the position
The Transportation Capacity Planner at Foster Farms is responsible for coordinating all processes related to load planning and freight movement using the Transportation Management System (TMS). This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a customer-centric approach to ensure efficient transportation operations.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate all processes and functions of load planning and freight movement using TMS.
- Process customer orders and optimize shipments into loads.
- Make loading and unloading appointments and tender freight to carriers.
- Update the Transportation Management System with current shipment information.
- Provide detailed instructions to associates from other shifts via phone and email.
- Track shipments and provide visibility to management and customers.
- Handle rate negotiations with carriers on a spot rate basis.
- Identify cost savings opportunities in transportation operations.
- Coordinate with carriers to ensure on-time delivery and track trucks for pick-up.
- Investigate load exceptions and report findings.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
- Experience with SAP and transportation management systems.
- Strong analytical and computer skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
- Knowledge of national and regional geography and roadways.
- Understanding of DOT regulations and hours of service rules.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
