About the position

The Transportation Center Operations Specialist position at the City of St. Louis is a part-time role that involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the smooth operation of the Gateway Transportation Center. This position is crucial for maintaining a welcoming and safe environment for the traveling public and facility lessees. The incumbent will be tasked with answering inquiries, providing information, and giving directions to visitors, as well as interacting with facility lessees to address their concerns and requests. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and effective communication skills to foster good relationships with all stakeholders. In addition to customer service duties, the specialist will conduct inspections of the transportation center property to identify maintenance and security needs. This includes preparing work requests, recording completed work, and generating related reports. The role also involves oversight of contract operations, ensuring that janitorial and security services are performed as scheduled. The specialist will work closely with security personnel to manage any issues related to trespassing or loitering, ensuring the safety and security of the facility. The position requires a strong ability to utilize data for analysis and decision-making, as well as the capability to operate various office equipment. The specialist must be able to interpret and apply policies and procedures effectively, demonstrating sound judgment in various situations. The role may involve exposure to adverse environmental conditions and requires physical capabilities such as lifting up to 25 pounds and performing inspections that may require bending and climbing stairs. Candidates must be available for shift work, including weekends and holidays, and should be prepared for a rotating shift schedule every six weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with the traveling public by answering inquiries and providing information and maps about events in St. Louis.
  • Maintain good relationships with lessees by addressing their concerns and requests for information.
  • Inspect transportation center property for maintenance and security matters.
  • Prepare work requests and record completed work, preparing related work reports.
  • Ensure that the contract janitorial provider performs scheduled daily services and resolve complaints regarding housekeeping matters.
  • Ensure that contract security service performs security reviews via camera and patrol.
  • Work with security personnel to remove any member of the general public trespassing or loitering at the center.
  • Follow procedures for efficient day-to-day operations of the facility, including managing deliveries and equipment repairs.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in transportation, facilities, or property management; OR two years of experience in security/public safety; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Basic level of data analysis skills, including the ability to review, classify, categorize, and prioritize data.
  • Ability to provide guidance and assistance to coworkers, the public, and contractors regarding policies and procedures.
  • Ability to operate office equipment such as computer terminals, fax machines, copiers, and calculators.
  • Mathematical aptitude to perform basic calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in customer service or public relations.
  • Knowledge of local transportation systems and events in St. Louis.
