As a Transportation Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for developing detailed designs for transportation infrastructure using computer-aided design (CAD) software. You will conduct feasibility studies to estimate materials, time, and labor costs, and prepare and present public reports on various topics including bid proposals and environmental impact statements. Your role will also involve overseeing and analyzing the results of soil testing to determine the adequacy and strength of foundations, as well as analyzing tests on building materials for use in specific projects. You will plan and design transportation or hydraulic systems and structures, ensuring compliance with construction and government standards. In addition to technical responsibilities, you will manage and direct staff members and oversee construction, operations, or maintenance activities at project sites. Regular inspections of project sites will be necessary to monitor progress and ensure adherence to design specifications and safety standards. You will also provide technical advice regarding design, construction, or program modifications and structural repairs to industrial and managerial personnel. Responsibilities

  • Developing detailed designs for transportation infrastructure using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Conducting feasibility studies to estimate materials, time and labor costs.
  • Preparing and presenting public reports on topics such as bid proposals, deeds, environmental impact statements, and property and right-of-way descriptions.
  • Overseeing and analyzing the results of soil testing to determine the adequacy and strength of foundations.
  • Analyzing the results of tests on building materials, such as concrete, wood, asphalt, or steel, for use in particular projects.
  • Planning and designing transportation or hydraulic systems and structures, following construction and government standards, using design software and drawing tools.
  • Directing or participating in surveying to lay out installations and establish reference points, grades, and elevations to guide construction.
  • Managing and directing staff members and the construction, operations, or maintenance activities at project site.
  • Inspecting project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety or sanitation standards.
  • Providing technical advice regarding design, construction, or program modifications and structural repairs to industrial and managerial personnel.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree or Professional Engineer (PE) certification would be a significant advantage.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering with a focus on transportation.
  • Proficiency in using WisDOT or equivalent software for designing and planning transportation infrastructure.
  • Excellent knowledge of design and visualizations software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar.
  • Proficiency in site layout, grading, utility design, regulatory approvals etc.
  • Project management and supervision skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant rules, regulations, and best practices in both government and industry.
  • A valid license to practice engineering.
