About the position

The Transportation/Distribution Manager at PET Dairy is responsible for overseeing the daily transportation operations at a location or distribution center. This role involves managing compliance with federal and state regulations, promoting safety and operational excellence, and ensuring high levels of customer service. The manager will interact with various stakeholders, conduct audits, and develop solutions to improve operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Manage transportation and/or distribution operations activities in compliance with company and regulatory rules and regulations.
  • Monitor daily operations and communicate effectively with members, customers, drivers, and dispatch.
  • Control costs for labor, supplies, and maintenance; approve expense reports and department expenditures.
  • Analyze and document business processes and develop solutions to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Establish positive working relationships with members or customers to ensure optimal service.
  • Hold supervisors and drivers accountable for professional interactions and service quality.
  • Assist in environmental, safety, and transportation compliance and reporting.
  • Inspect and schedule fleet maintenance to ensure timely preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Interview and hire new employees; identify training needs for workforce development.
  • Function as a resource and coach to transportation supervisors; support employees in meeting performance expectations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; undergraduate degree preferred.
  • 5 to 8 years of distribution, logistics, and/or transportation experience, including team leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Class A commercial driver's license in state of residence as required.
  • Ability to obtain tanker endorsement within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to obtain doubles or triples endorsement as required.
  • Ability to obtain state issued milk sampler/hauler license as required.
  • Current medical card as required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Solid knowledge of dairy industry production practices, processes, regulations, and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of DOT transportation regulations.
  • Knowledge of geographic area for pick-up and delivery.
  • Skill in leadership, coaching, and team building.
