About the position
The Transportation Engineer 6-Site/Civil position at CDM Smith involves overseeing site design projects primarily for clients in the Chicago area, including CTA and Metra. The role requires managing technical aspects of projects, ensuring compliance with regulations, and mentoring junior staff. The engineer will lead large-scale mass transit projects, conduct site inspections, and coordinate with clients while maintaining project financials and adhering to firm policies.
Responsibilities
- Oversee site design projects nationwide, focusing on CTA, Metra, and other Chicago-area clients.
- Manage technical aspects of projects, ensuring accuracy and driving the technical vision.
- Handle project financials, client coordination, and compliance with regulations.
- Lead the development of large-scale mass transit projects and sign off on designs.
- Conduct site inspections, create proposals, and attend client meetings.
- Mentor junior staff, providing technical guidance and supervising their work.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional engineering (PE) license.
- 10 years of related experience.
- Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally as required.
Nice-to-haves
- IL PE & ability to get reciprocity in other states, preferably FL and TN.
- Strong background in civil-site design, especially with CTA, Metra, and Illinois Municipal roadway/highway design projects.
- Experience managing and delivering site design projects from initiation through final design.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in project scope development, budget management, and technical report writing.
- In-depth understanding of site development principles related to transportation projects.
