About the position

The Transportation Engineer I/II/III position at TxDOT in Athens, Texas, involves performing various transportation engineering tasks related to planning, project development, design, construction, and maintenance of roadways. Responsibilities

  • Assists in overseeing contracts, issuing work orders, and monitoring construction schedules and contractor payments.
  • Reviews shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structures.
  • Assists with design, computer operations, and plan preparation.
  • Develops design and project development reports, surveys, and correspondence.
  • Interprets the Utility Accommodation Policy and monitors contractors' compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Performs engineering design work including layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts.
  • Resolves differences between contractors and inspectors.
  • Reviews change orders, supplemental agreements, and monthly estimates prior to submittal.
  • Coordinates with Area Engineers and utility companies regarding project impacts.
  • Conducts on-site engineering reviews and analyses for construction projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science accepted by TX PELS.
  • Transportation Engineer I: 4 years of engineering or related experience.
  • Transportation Engineer II: 5 years of engineering or related experience.
  • Transportation Engineer III: 6 years of engineering or related experience.
  • Valid driver's license required for driving a state vehicle.
  • Professional Engineer license required within six months of hire for out-of-state licensed engineers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with highway construction design applications.
  • Proficiency in cost estimating and cost controls.
