About the position

The Transportation Engineering Technician (TET) plays a crucial role in supporting various engineering functions within the North Region Project Development (NRPD) of Caltrans. This position involves both office and fieldwork, where the incumbent will perform a range of transportation engineering tasks under the supervision of senior engineers. The role requires travel to project sites and may involve temporary assignments in construction or inspection roles during peak seasons.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various transportation engineering tasks in both office and field environments.
  • Assist in project development and construction activities as assigned by senior engineers.
  • Travel to project sites for inspections and meetings with agencies and the public.
  • Utilize state-owned vehicles for travel to project sites and training classes.
  • Participate in fieldwork, which may include exposure to various environmental conditions.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required when operating a state-owned or leased vehicle.
  • Experience in transportation engineering or related fields is preferred.
  • Ability to work in both office and outdoor environments, including exposure to dirt, noise, and extreme weather conditions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with C# programming is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Caltrans policies and procedures is beneficial.
