About the position

The Transportation Maintenance Crew Chief at TxDOT's Beaumont District is responsible for leading a team of maintenance technicians and equipment operators in performing skilled transportation maintenance activities. This role involves responding to emergencies, overseeing contract workers, and ensuring the effective operation of maintenance tasks while promoting a safe work environment. Responsibilities

• Leads a crew of transportation maintenance technicians and equipment operators.
• Assists during accidents and emergency weather situations to sand bridges and roads and put up warning signs.
• Assists with surveying-related work.
• Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments.
• Inspects roads while en route to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors.
• Inspects work performed by maintenance contractors.
• Operates light and heavy equipment.
• Oversees contract workers and coordinates applicable activities.
• Oversees the work of designated maintenance technicians and sign technicians.
• Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment.
• Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments and serving as a resource for complex questions.
• Presents operational updates to the supervisor and provides input on team members' career conversations.
• Approves leave requests to ensure operational coverage.
• Performs all other job responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or Equivalent in general education.
• 5 years experience in roadway maintenance related work.
• Valid driver's license required for driving a state vehicle.
• Must have a Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or obtain it within 180 days from date of employment.
