The Route Manager Trainee (RMT) training program at Waste Management is designed to prepare individuals for the role of frontline Route Managers. This program emphasizes hands-on training, where trainees will spend the majority of their time in the field, engaging directly with frontline employees. The training will cover essential skills such as increasing financial profitability, maximizing operational efficiency, improving customer satisfaction, and leading teams effectively. Candidates must be open to relocating within a specified geographic area upon completion of the training program. As part of the program, trainees will develop their skills through consistent touchpoints with frontline employees, regular reviews of best practices, and partnerships with Drivers and Technicians to enhance job-related skills. The program also includes a comprehensive training curriculum that must be completed alongside other assigned training tasks. Trainees will actively practice coaching conversations and collaborate with various frontline managers to gain insights into day-to-day business operations, including those of Operations Improvement Managers, Fleet Managers, Sales Managers, District Managers, and Route Managers. Additionally, trainees will gain knowledge of DOT and OSHA safety programs, operational business processes, performance management, and fleet maintenance processes. While this position may involve periodic leadership responsibilities, it primarily focuses on developing the necessary skills to succeed as a Route Manager.
