About the position

The Transportation Manager at US Foods is responsible for leading the Transportation department with a focus on safety, service, and cost efficiency. This role involves managing personnel, ensuring safe and timely deliveries, and fostering a culture of engagement and performance among drivers and associates. The manager will oversee training, performance evaluations, and compliance with DOT regulations while driving operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead with a safety mindset to ensure injury-free interactions for associates, customers, and the public.
  • Oversee and develop drivers and Transportation associates through coaching and training.
  • Create an atmosphere encouraging upward communication and motivate associates to achieve goals.
  • Direct and supervise the work and productivity of drivers and clerical associates.
  • Build high-performing teams by participating in hiring and performance reviews.
  • Monitor production goals and maintain a zero-error attitude for accuracy and customer satisfaction.
  • Identify and stop waste, improving processes for safety and efficiency.
  • Conduct routine Safety and Driver Meetings and oversee maintenance of driver qualification files.
  • Investigate accidents and maintain an accident file, tracking causes and implementing preventative actions.
  • Effectively schedule working shifts using planning tools.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of experience in transportation/delivery or warehouse distribution required.
  • Minimum of one year of experience overseeing a workforce required.
  • Broad knowledge of transportation/delivery operations, methods, and procedures.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and people development skills.
  • Strong understanding of DOT requirements and familiarity with inventory control and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to interpret financial and operational data.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a driver is a plus.
